In-Person Event Registration Fees


REGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY, AUGUST 7 AT 5:00M P.M. CARA Support Level members save 10% off all fee levels. Participants 21 & Over:

  • Through July 26, 2020: $35

Notes: Credit card payment registrations are subject to a processing fee. To avoid fee pay by check. Send check along with note with first name, last name, email and phone number to Chicago Area Runners Association, 1100 W. Cermak Rd, #231, Chicago, IL 60608. Fees must arrive prior to deadline. Fees will not be reduced for those 21 & older not using beer coupons.

Group B (3-4 Sections of approx. 12-16, mixed males/females)

  • Entry Opens 3:15 p.m. (Pod 2)

  • Race Time: 4:15 p.m.

  • Depart Deadline: 5:30 p.m.

Group A (3-4 Sections of approx. 12-16, mixed males/females)*

  • Entry Opens 4:00 p.m. (Pod 3)

  • Race Time: 5:00 p.m.

  • Depart Deadline: 6:15 p.m.

*Runners should be able to run a time of 6:30 or better to enter Group A.

Each "group" will include three to four sections (a.k.a. races) that will run one at a time, on a rolling schedule, one after another during that groups alloted racing time.

Capacity is limited, register early!




Group Assignments / Entry Times


Group A: Participants wishing to be selected for the most competitive sections in Group A may be required to provide an entry time that will be verified to the best of the events ability. Entry times may be conversions from any distance 800-meters to 5K achieved since January 2019. Groups B, C, and D: Participants may self select their preferred group from B, C, D, or E to provide the best opportunity to be in a group with friends and family. Participants who register for Group A, but are not selected will be placed in the group that best fits their entry time from Groups B, C, and D. Entry Times: All participants are asked to provided a entry time during registration. Except for Group A, entry times may be your best estimate of your One-Mile ability. Those who do not know their One-Mile time may estimate their entry time with a 5K performance using the conversion chart HERE. Those who enter without an entry time will be placed with others with no time within their selected group. Section assignments within groups will be made by the entry time provided during registration only. Identical entry times will be seeded randomly among themselves. Request to be assigned to sections with specific persons will not be accepted. Please enter using a entry time that accurately reflects your ability, so you may be placed in a section that provides you with the best chance to run with others of your ability level. The event will only verify entry times for the final fastest sections of the event. Section assignments (a.k.a. "heat sheets") will be e-mailed and posted to this website by Friday, August 7. Changes to section assignments will not be accepted.




Location / Track


Chicago Hope Academy Track 727 S Washtenaw Ave., Chicago The Chicago Hope Academy track is one of the finest track's in the region. Hope Academy features an eight lane mondo surface track.




Results / Timing


Results will be posted at the event and on the website. Our official timer will use FinishLynx timing. Finish placement will be determined using USATF rules (when the finisher's torso crosses the finish line). This event will not count for USATF championship qualifying.




Packet Pick-Up / Check-In


Packet pick-up will be available on event day. Packets (shirt, hip number) will be received at check-in upon arrival to your pod. Runners must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their group's scheduled race start time.




Awards


The top 3 Males and Females overall, and in the following categories will be awarded. Age Groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85 and over.) Age group standings will be compiled by combining all section's results. Age group awards will be mailed within approx. two-weeks of the event.




Club Tents


Due to COVID-19 operational preparedness, club tents are not permitted.




Volunteers


Volunteers are needed to support this event. Proceeds go towards CARA, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization and the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Volunteers will be provided with a ammenity item, as well as access to PPE (mask, gloves, hand sanitizer). Additional FAQ


Strollers / Pets? Participants are NOT allowed to participate with baby joggers, strollers or animals. Animals will not be permitted within the facility. Can a friend pick-up my packet? No, packets for this event may only be picked up by the registered participant. Can I give my registration to another person? You may NOT give (sell or transfer) your registration to another person and another person may NOT run with another person’s entry. Can my friends or family run with me if they are not registered? No, unregistered persons may not run with you on the track or through the finish line. What are the events competition rules? The event will abide by USATF competition rules. The event expects all participants respect fair competition, including following the RRCA's Fair Competition Policies: https://www.rrca.org/resources/event-directors/fair-competition-policies. Is there a finisher medal? No, this event does not include a finisher medals. Can I defer or receive a refund? Refunds and deferrals will NOT be issued for any reason, including injury and other unforeseen issues (weather/lightning, etc.). Registering early comes with decreased entry fees and registrants should understand their risk by choosing to register early, including no opportunity for refunds. However, if the event is canceled due to COVID-19, participants may request a refund. What is the events cancellation policy? Event staff reserves the right to cancel or to modify the race if deemed necessary to protect the participants, the volunteers, the spectators or the host community or as a result of unforeseen course/venue conflicts. Cancellations out of the direct control of the event will be recognized as unforeseeable acts. Since the staging of the race results in substantial up-front expenses regardless of whether or not the race is completed, cancellation or modification of the event will not result in the refunding of fees or future event credits. However, should the event be forced to cancel due to COVID-19, refunds will be provided upon request. I am not able to run the race. Can I still get my shirt? Yes, but you must come to a packet pick-up. Shirts are not available at the CARA office pre- or post-race. My shirt does not fit; may I exchange it for another size? Yes, if you have not yet worn or washed your shirt you may exchange it post-race at the shirt tent while supplies last. I am part of a group. Are discounts available? Groups of 10 or more confirmed participants may request a group discount. What is the events weather policy? Safety is our number one priority. If weather threatens our ability to safely run the event we will postpone if possible or cancel. We will not run in lightning. If there are weather delays or cancelations up to date information will be posted HERE and at cararuns.org in the twitter feed box.




Travel / Parking


Parking: A parking lot is available at Chicago Hope Academy Track. Participants and spectators may not enter the facility until five minutes prior to their group's pod opening time. Please do not arrive early due to gathering restrictions. Public Transit: Western Ave Blue Line Station 0.6 Miles Ride Share: Those traveling to the event by ride share should drop off outside the facility gates. Bike: Please bring a bike lock.




Gear Check


Gear Check will be provided. You may check a bag of your choice using the gear check tag received at packet pick-up. Please note the gear check area is not covered. In the event of inclement weather, you may wish to choose a plastic or weather-proof bag. The event is not responsible for lost or damaged items checked at gear check. Please do not check valuables

Updated Event Information


CARA is moving forward with the in-person ChiTown Miles event with an updated date, location, and operations. Illinois’ Phase 4 allows persons to gather outdoors in groups of up to 50 persons, with multiple groups allowed within the same facility as long as groups can maintain separation. CARA has developed an event operations plan to provide a safe event that meets state and local guidelines. This is being managed by assigning participants to group pods. Pods will be secure areas with gated access. The event will limit persons from gathering with more than 50 persons. Participants will not be permitted to interact with any participants outside of their group pod. Pods: Each participant will be assigned a group. Each group will have an assigned pod (1, 2, or 3) within the event facility. Participants must remain in their pod while at the event with the exception of their time to race on the track. Only runners from a single pod will be on the track at a time. Participants must return to their pod immediately after racing. Pod Timeline (Total - 2 Hrs, 15 mins):

  • 60 Minutes - Pre-Race (Arrival / Check-In / Gear Check / Warm-Up) [Participants may arrive anytime during this window, so long as they are checked-in within 15 minutes of their scheduled race time]
  • 30 minutes (Approx.) - Race (On track, 3 heats of 16 per heat)
  • 45 minutes (Approx.) - Post Race (Cool-Downs / Social / Depart)
Pod Amenities: Each pod will have identical amenities and will be independent of any other pod.

Beneficiaries


This event benefits the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) and the Greater Chicago Food Depository. CARA, a 501c3 not-for-profit organiztion has a mission to serve and advocate for the running community. The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago's food bank. They provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.




Participant Expectation


The following advisements and expectations will be routinely communicated to participants and spectators:

  • Do not participate if you are feeling sick or ill, and or have a fever, or if you have been in contact with someone unrecovered from COVID-19.
  • Persons from high risk groups for COVID-19 complications should consult their physician before participating.
  • Do not engage in traditional forms of physical contact (hand shakes, high-fives, hugs, partner stretching, etc.).
  • Do not engage in close group pictures/selfies.
  • Only spit or blow nose into a tissue or handkerchief.
  • Do not share personal items, such as hydration, energy gels, towels, food, drinks, etc.
  • Participants must have a mask or face covering to enter the facility, and must wear a mask or face covering anytime they are not able to maintain a distance of 6 feet from others, except while racing.
  • Participants may be required to exit the event should their actions not meet expectations and or they are creating risk for themselves or others.
  • Warm-Up or Cool-Down must occur within the pod, or outside of the facility.




Spectators


In order to maintain gathering guidelines, spectators of all ages, must register ($10 donation required to Greater Chicago Food Depository). Spectator access will be limited, and spectators must register online. No race day spectator registration. Spectator registrations are considered non-refundable donations.




Race Anywhere Option (Virtual)


Join us from anywhere! Race to your best One-Mile time on your local track, street, or path with the virtual "Race Anywhere Option". You will receive the official event shirt, shipped to you (mailing included). Shipping will occur race week! "Race Anywhere" runners will receive a link to submit their results anytime between August 1 and August 16th. We'll select three "Race Anywhere" participants at random for bonus CARA swag pack from all results submitted.
